Q&A

Questions are good. they are a sign of seeking God and are the most prominent signs of growth. There is nothing that keeps a christian stagnant like a loss of the hunger for answers. Nobody knows it all.

Hebrews 11:6 says,

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Luke 11:9 says,
“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
God wants to be chased. When you LOVE someone you desire to be in their presence, to learn their favorite color and to know what makes them happy. You have a DESIRE to learn about them. You asks QUESTIONS,

Q: Why does GOD allow BAD things to happen to GOOD people?

A: For one there is no such thing as GOOD people. Every man has the capacity of evil. ANYONE can LET YOU DOWN. The second part in this answer is that God does not create bad. Sin distorts good and makes it that way.

In Mark 10:17,18

Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One,that is, God.

Jesus himself declined to be called good. Why? the answer can be found in Job 24: 4
How then can man be righteous before God? Or how can he be pure who is born of a woman?
This is coming from a man who GOD HIMSELF described as "a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil" (Job 1:8)

This is why the story of Jesus's death and ressurection is so powerful. Jesus had the capacity to fail us. That is, his human nature had the capacity to fail us. He was tempted in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights, and in order to be tempted, you must be susceptible to the temptation. You can't tempt a rabbit to enter a trap using fried chicken. It is not in that animal's nature to desire chicken. It is however the divine nature of GOD that allowed our Lord and Savior to not see himself, but God in him, and God hates and abhors sin. The sacrifice that Jesus made was not an easy one. It was so hard for him that the night of his crucifixion, he sweat blood. This phenomenon is actually documented in other people and occurs when someone is under a great deal of physical or mental duress according to the US National Library of Medicine

Now to address the second part of the question. God didn't create bad. Bad is a natural by product of acting out side of the will and timing of God. The law of entropy in thermodynamics can give the clearest picture of this. Borrowing from a more educated source on the subject (if you would like to see where click here)

"A rock will fall if you lift it up and then let go. Hot frying pans cool down when taken off the stove. Iron rusts (oxidizes) in the air. Air in a high-pressure tire shoots out from even a small hole in its side to the lower pressure atmosphere. Ice cubes melt in a warm room.

What’s happening in each of those processes? Energy of some kind is changing from being localized ("concentrated" in the rock or the pan, etc.) to becoming more spread out. Look at those examples again to see how that statement fits them all."
Once Adam and Eve changed from being localized in GOD, they were no longer GOOD. Their action started a cycle of change and distortion that couldn't be stopped, except by relocalizing in GOD and only by relocalizing in GOD. We are constantly moving at increasing speeds toward the opposite of GOOD unless we come back to GOD through Jesus Christ.

Consider this, every attempt humanity has made to heal themselves has only created more problems. Think you can prove me wrong? Lets look at medicine, a discipline that was created with the sole intent of helping. Disease was obsolete in the beginning. We were in perfect harmony with GOD and with nature. With sin, came the curse that men would have to work hard to gain food from the ground and that women would travail in pain as they bore children. This introduced physical pain, and most likely chronic pain. With time the discovery that certain berries and roots ease the pain was found, and whats more, that a mixture of these would provide even better relief. How many people died testing their poorly made concoctions on themselves and others? In this day and age you can hardly find a prescription drug that does not have a side effect that's not worse than what you are treating. more than 10% of people that walk in a hospital die either because of malpractice or contracting something worse in the hospital. Vaccines cause cerebral palsy and within 5-10 years a good portion of what the doctor learned in med school is outdated... And lets not even mention the strain healthcare costs put on people because that would lead us into another equally damaged field: economics. The point is simply this: We can't do this by ourselves, and to blame God is the easiest way to condemn ourselves to this forever. God doesn't allow bad to happen, but our collective choice to stay disconnected from Him does.

But I'm a christian so it doesn't apply to me right? Wrong. Your choice to follow Jesus will exempt you from a lot of it. You won't feel despair. Suicide will never consume you. You will rarely (and I say rarely because we all have the capacity for sin) put yourself in a compromised position in which some of the wages of sin will manifest in your life...

 HOWEVER

You are just one of many freewill agents, many of which haven't made the choice. The actions of the group, both past and present may still affect you. You will not necessarily be able to control the onset of a disease in your life. God in his grace and mercy may choose to protect you from it, but if by your disease and suffering he can save half a dozen more, it is worth it to him and it should be to you. You see, God LOVES. That is it. He sacrificed his perfect and obedient son to save a scarred and disfigured world. That includes you. In turn, all he requires is that you love him enough to be obedient, and that you love others because he loves others and because you, at one point were one of the many others who through your actions hated Him and yourself.

Note that earlier I mentioned free will. We all have the option to choose. The environment we are in is conducive to that environment. God does not normally interfere in the world because we all experience the natural extension of our, and others' actions. God will allow the natural by product of out decision to follow through. That is why anything that defies logic and reason and the laws of nature and of this earth is called a miracle. The flip side is also true. God rarely punishes.

Proverbs 3:12 says,
For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.
Notice the phrase "in whom he delights". A father of a typically obedient child, or even a disobedient child seeking to become obedient will correct him. A father of a child who is both disobedient and unashamed of his disobedience is discouraged from wasting his time. So when you ask 'why would You allow this?' ask right after it, 'what have we done?'
